Yes it sounds like Erotica and I think of that Madonna song, but this is actually different.

It is a bike fair and ride dedicated to cycling of old. The video is a bit long, but interesting.
It also has some great views of Tuscany, and makes me continue to think of going to Italy. One day….

I love this picture. In a way it resembles moments in life to me.  There are three different groups in this photo.

The first is the CX racer behind the leaders waiting for his turn up the muck. The second is the actual competing leaders of the race already on the muck. And the last group is the spectators.

At different times in life we are in one of these groups.  Sometimes I am just the spectator as another friend, colleague, or family member take the lead roles as I cheer them on.  At other times I am the leader blazing that trail, and still other times I am waiting for the leaders to blaze the trail before I push headlong into it.

Either way it is a cool picture.

He died in obscurity

He died in obscurity in 1891 in Boston at age 47.

People credit Pierre Lallement with the creation of the first pedal powered bicycle.
He had the Epiphany after seeing a Dandy Horse in 1862 to make his own, but with cranks and pedals.
Sadly after the creation and the selling his patent he disappears from history a penniless man.

The history of the bicycle is littered with the remains of dead inventors.  I appreciate these pioneers and can’t wait to see what newer generations come up with for our beloved bicycle. We have only had about 150 years or so to develop this mechanical wonder, where else can we take it?

Just a note to would-be inventors: be careful who you deal with.

Here is a longer video from Gazelle on how they made their bikes back in 1925.
