Summer riding Scappoose

Today I got the Hall Pass and made for some hidden-ish trails near Scappoose Oregon.  I think these trails may be the closest ones to me here in Beaverton.  There really is no map that I know of and you just have to figure it out yourself or have some one show you the ways of the Force.  I was fortunate enough to have a fellow PDX rider give me the basics earlier this spring.  His instructions were simple: “Don’t worry and find the fire road if you get lost.”  Pretty much a spot on if you ask me.

Of course you will get lost back there, but that is the BEST part of the ride.  I love being out there.  Every time I ride here in Oregon I think:
(literally thinking this while riding)

Wow! These are the trails I was wishing to ride while living in Colorado.

Lush vegetation surrounding smooth yet twisty loamy singletrack. I love it.

NOTE to Newbies: The mosquitoes are hungry this time of year, don’t sit still.
And bashing your Knee into the fork crown hurts.

Continental Touring Plus 700×28

This will be just a short post on the Continental Touring Plus tires to commute on. I have only had them for barely a month, and will need to give a longer review later after more use.

I have been a big fan of Continental tires for commuting since about 2004. I find I have less flats and each tire seems to last longer than the other brands. I can usually get at least a year of solid destroy-your-tire-city-commuting in before they start to fall apart.

I have had these Touring Plus tires on my main commuter for barely a month, and I chose them for a couple reasons.

1 – Great past experiences with Continental Tires
2- The shop manager recommended them over another conti tire

For the first 30 miles the rubber is fairly new and very slick, so take it easy and don’t rail the corners until you wear them in a bit. After that have fun and enjoy no flats.

Have Fun

Jeremy

Panaracer Rampage 29×2.35

I recently got some Panaracer Rampage 29×2.35 Mountain bike tires for my Karate Monkey.

I took it out for the first time with them the other day and here are some pics of the fit. As you can see, these fit in the KM frameset nicely except I can no longer shift into the ganny(22T) gear up front because the space is too tight and the knobs rub on the front derailleur.

First Ride impressions were pretty good as they ride a lot like my old Kenda Nevegals, but lighter!

I will update more as I get some miles on these things.

Tight!!
